The recently released report of the United Nations Human Rights Council on last winter's war between Israel and Hamas, which was chaired by the South African jurist Richard Goldstone and just approved by the Human Rights Council, condemns both Israel and Hamas for "war crimes" and possibly "crimes against humanity." However, the report - which was approved by a vote of 25-6, with 11 abstentions - reserves the bulk of the blame in its 575 pages for Israel.
To understand how this report, which is…

Myanmar is sure to prove a burden again as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations holds its annual summit, undermining the bloc’s international standing and efforts to forge free trade areas with the United States an…

The western media is correctly heralding the women of Iran for their bravery and strength during this turbulent political time, claiming that they are at the forefront of the political activism scene and leading the revolutionary demand for honest and fair elections. I of course agree, and am impressed with their ability to unite under a cause that impacts the entire nation, as well as of their courageous vocalization. I think all too often the West is shocked by the inner strength found in Midd…

The demonstration organized by Sindhi and Baloch activists on May 6, 2009 was filled with shouts of anger against the Pakistan government actions toward Balochistan. In preparation for the event, I wore a beautiful and intricately woven Balochi outfit and as I walked with my fellow interns and volunteers to the White House, I viewed the warm weather as a sign that our rally for Balochistan would achieve the organizers’ intended aims. The presence of young and old women, men, and school-aged chil…

It has not been a good week for women's rights in the news, when it comes to the nations boardering/housing the Balochistan region. President Karzai supported and signed controversial legislation that could drastically reduce the rights of women in Afghanistan. And in Pakistan, the Taliban are already exerting their strength over women, showing no remorse for the leaked video footage of a young girl being flogged for an "improper" relationship. These situations will in some way impact the Baloch…
